Sony Germany announces that they will release in about 14 days details and retail date for an IPod Killer, a Network Walkman. It will have the same UI and buttons as the NW-A series harddisk walkmen but it will be much more slimmer and stylish. Sony added the facility to play back videos, the display will be a high-resolution full color display. The width of the device will be about 6mm, which is really very slim even compared to the Apple Nano.
The new Walkman will be able to play back ATRAC Advanced Lossless directly without converting or manipulating it in the device on the fly. This means that you will be able to listen to real CD-quality. The NW-A series and especially the older NW-HD5 series walkmen have won several prices for their perfect sound quality so it is likely that the new walkman will be a real winner in this field. The sound enhancement facilities will be on par with the S series flash walkmen (such as Clear Stereo etc.).
Sony Germany has released via the Connect Store several music tracks in ATRAC Advanced Lossless. They can be downloaded now at:

The new walkman will have a flash memory with up to 8GB. Also a facility to record directly from analogue sources (as with on the S series flash walkman http://www.sony.de/view/ShowArticle.action?section=de_DE_Products&articlesection=1&article=1159199104663&productcategory=%2FAudio&site=odw_de_DE)
and encode real-time to MP3, AAC and ATRAC will be provided.
